Aetopia was formed in May 2005. It is an innovative ICT company that specialises in building distributed, web based software solutions for Digital Asset Management (DAM).  Its core product, MediaBase, is a powerful technology that provides a robust, scalable architecture for mass storage, indexing, retrieval and presentation of heterogeneous digital assets. Media base is the foundation for Aetopia’s image Management and Photo Sales application.

Aetopia’s primary market is newspapers. Key customers include the Irish Times, Independent News and Media, The Irish News, Belfast Media Group (all Irish) and Wegener Newspapers (Holland). Other users of MediaBase include The Public Records Office for N. Ireland and The Ulster Museum.

In Nov 06, the company won the Belfast heat of the InterTradeIreland seedcorn competition for best business on the island of Ireland.
