BT's position at the forefront of telecommunications technology and as a major player in information communication technology (ICT) is a direct result of a continued commitment to research and development. BT invests significant amounts in R&D and for example invested over £380M on research in 2003. In Ireland the BT workforce totals around 3300 of whom 900 plus are with Esat BT in RoI and around 2400 with BTNI in NI. Under the leadership of Bill Murphy, BTNI and Esat BT combine to provide seamless All Ireland services to a wide and growing range of customers who do business on an All Ireland basis. With a company-wide philosophy firmly rooted in customer satisfaction, BT focuses on understanding business issues, listening to customers and addressing their needs through tailored high quality technology based services which provide competitive advantage. With the recently completed acquisition, for £17Million, of B.I.C. Systems Group Ltd, BT Solutions capability will be greatly enhanced. The merger of the two organisations is calculated to propel BTNI to the forefront of the ICT services sector in Northern Ireland two years ahead of schedule in the planned five-year strategic programme.
